Reading Liberal Democrats have criticised Thames Water for asking the water regulator for permission to charge their customers even more for failing services.

Thames Water are one of six firms asking the water regulator to allow them to dish out even higher bills for their customers. This means that people across Reading could have even more expensive water bills.

Customers of Thames Water are already set to see bills rise by £151 this April, an increase of 31%, all whilst they fill our seas and rivers with disgusting sewage.

Reading Liberal Democrats say it is not good enough, and that it is time for Ofwat to be replaced with a new regulator for failing to hold these greedy water companies accountable.

Liberal Democrats across the country are campaigning to protect customers from failing water companies.

Liberal Democrats Parliamentary Spokesperson for Reading Central, Henry Wright said:

“It is scandalous that debt-ridden water companies demand higher bills from customers, whilst they continue to pump gallons of disgusting sewage into British seas and rivers.

“Ofwat has failed to hold water companies accountable for their financial and environmental mismanagement. The government must knuckle down and replace Ofwat with a new regulator that has real power to ensure customers are not having to foot the bill for water company failures.

"Liberal Democrats will fight tooth and nail to protect customers from failing water companies like Thames Water and urge the government to reform the defunct water industry so that it works for customers, companies and the environment."
