Introducing our 2022 Local Election Candidates
The Reading Liberal Democrats are proud to introduce our team of candidates for the 2022 Reading Borough Council elections.
Candidates have been confirmed across all 16 wards for the 2022 local elections here in Reading. The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has re-drawn the map of wards within Reading Borough Council, so we will be electing a whole new council this year - everyone will get three votes rather than the normal one. You can find out which of the new wards you're in here.
20 Lib Dem candidates from all walks of life are standing as your local champions, from Abbey to Whitley. Each of our candidates will be a powerful voice for their local communities. Many of them already have strong reputations for working hard all year round.
Councillor Meri O'Connell, Liberal Democrat Group Leader on Reading Borough Council, said:
“I'm so proud that we're announcing such a strong slate of candidates this year. People across Reading are telling us it's time for a change, and with the whole council up for election, we have a great opportunity, not only to send a message to the Conservatives nationally, but to send one to the Labour Party locally too.
Residents have been telling us of their disgust at the behaviour of Boris Johnson and the Conservatives lately, whether it's the scandal around parties during last year's Coronavirus lockdowns, the Conservatives voting to allow water companies to keep spewing sewage into our rivers, or the shocking lack of action from the Home Office on settling Ukrainian refugees in the UK.
But equally, Reading has been run by the Labour Party for all but one of the last thirty years, and residents are fed up with them as well. With this slate of Lib Dem candidates, everyone in Reading has the opportunity to elect a real local champion for their neighbourhood.”
Sir Ed Davey MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, said:
“This Liberal Democrat election campaign is all about your community. How we can help your community build back. How we can help local businesses on your high street, closed for months, to re-open, survive and thrive. How together we can make your community fairer, greener and more caring.
So, on the 5th of May, people have a fantastic opportunity to back their community, by backing people who believe in their community, people who will act for and with their community – their Liberal Democrat candidate.
Vote Liberal Democrat on the 5th of May and you’ll get a local champion who will get things done in your community. You’ll get a cleaner, greener neighbourhood where recovery comes first and local people are listened to.”
