Lib Dem Cllrs outside Tilehurst Library

Hands Off Tilehurst Library!

We, the undersigned, would like to tell Reading Borough Council how much we value all of the libraries in Reading, but Tilehurst Library in particular. Libraries are a focal point for the whole community. They are a diverse space where children learn to read, pensioners can go to socialise, and free internet access is provided for everyone. They provide access to education and the arts for everyone. We understand that the council faces tough economic times but we cannot afford to lose our library here in Tilehurst. We oppose any suggestion of it being closed and our grounds for this include:

• It is the only library within walking distance of most residents in Tilehurst and there is free parking nearby for those with cars
• The staff have built up excellent relations within the local community with visits to primary schools and stands at local events
• We have no community centre and the library provides a hub for activities and a contact point for council information.
