Pothole

Local Liberal Democrats, led by Cllr Ricky Duveen have blasted local Conservatives for letting down Reading, as figures unveiled in Parliament show, that cash to fix our roads has been slashed.

Parliamentary analysis shows that in Reading pothole maintenance funding has been cut by £120,000.

This cut comes after the Chancellor promised an extra ‘Pothole Fund’. Even with this cash, it doesn’t plug the gap and Reading will lose out. Reading is receiving a paltry £60,000 specifically to deal with potholes

Nationally, the shortfall in cash is £25 million.

Ricky said: “Fixing our roads in Reading is a key priority. I deal with new complaints about potholes on a daily basis. Residents are rightly upset at the state of our roads.”

Baroness Dorothy Thornhill, Liberal Democrat Local Government spokesperson added: “The government have trumpeted the pothole funding but our analysis shows a massive black hole.

“The Conservatives put out a lot of press releases on this but deliver much, much less.

“We are facing ‘Pot Hole Britain’. Our drivers deserve better.

“Millions of drivers pay tax through the nose for awful roads that are a danger to drivers.

“It is, frankly, a national embarrassment.”
